The north east corner of Alma Park in St Kilda East was a long-neglected part of the park that Papworth Davies has rejuvenated, working with the City of Port Phillip.

Located immediately adjacent to the Christian Brothers College, the project has tied together a range of competing uses and provided better connectivity around the main oval whilst still maintaining and improving access between the school and the oval.

Design challenges for Papworth Davies included resolving a series of level changes between the college and the oval while at the same time providing a new dedicated access around the oval and retaining large existing trees. Recycling bluestone pitchers from existing walls that were demolished and using them in the construction of new walls as well as using simple ground materials such as asphalt paths and lawn has maintained the existing character of the area whilst lifting its quality. The understated nature of the design is such that it feels like it has always been there.
