Arthurton Road Northcote is a significant high density, mixed use development project located in Melbourne’s inner northern suburbs. The site is typical of the area as it changes rapidly from industrial and commercial to residential with strong connections to the fruit and vegetable storage and distribution industry.

Working with the client, Meydan Group, our team prepared a landscape masterplan to provide a framework for the development as it is implemented over a number of stages, and to assist with the ongoing town planning DA process with Council.
The masterplan features a series of pedestrian “streets”, seating refuges, interconnected parks and recreation spaces which seek to create a highly permeable and activated ground plane for the development.

Key connections to to the surrounding neighbourhood streets have been carefully considered such as a proposed new pedestrian link to the High Street activity centre, ensuring that future residents can easily access the range of shops, cafes and transport located close by. A new north south bicycle path connects Arthurton Road with Elm Street and ties in to future streetscape and bicycle network plans for Arthurton Road.

An important aspect of the design is the resolution of the co-ordination with the Architects, Wireframe Architects, to achieve a well vegetated planting scheme over the basement carpark. This was achieved through careful placement of large sunken planters in order to minimise the prominence of raised garden beds in the scheme.
